PATTERNS AND DISPLAYS:
Stripe

The ‘stripes’ display is the male indication of sexual interest and can also be shown unilaterally towards the female. In the courtship sequence stripes are paired with the female’s saddle display. Stripes occur on a background of pale brown; components are a pair of dorsolateral stripes, a white central stripe, a yellow or brown head bar and pale arms. Fins can be brown with distinct fin dots and a white fin edge line or pale. There may also be a black fin base line at the fin-mantle intersection, and a unilateral ‘teardrop’ (black triangle anterior of the eye) towards the female.
